New Korle-Bu CEO outdoored

The Governing Board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has asked the new Chief Executive Officer of the facility, Dr. Daniel Asare to keenly monitor the performance of the facility’s staff.

According to the board, a two-year plan must be outlined to track the output of staff of the hospital to influence extra reward or punishment for them.

Speaking at an event to introduce the new CEO of the hospital, the Board Chairman for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr.Bernard Okoe Boye said staff appraisals from performance contracts must lead to meaningful results.

“We have a situation where across board, everybody comes and we do our things and we get paid anyway. Nobody is rewarded extra or reprimanded for output, so one of the first things we want to do with this Chief Executive is to have some performance contract. He should come up with the strategic deliverables or plan for the next two years.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has described the new CEO, Dr. Asare as a competent doctor with the necessary expertise in handling the hospital.

He said he was confident that the “rich experience” of Dr. Asare would help transform Korle-Bu and make it a client-friendly health facility.

“The new CEO was settled on using very important factors such as competence, capacity to deliver or handle a teaching hospital, the necessary experience when it comes to hospital management, the flexibility to adjust to new conditions and people and other significant factors,” Okoe Boye said.

Okoe Boye further charged management and staff of the hospital to work together in ensuring that the hospital lives up to its expectation and encourage public confidence in the facility.

“We want to together with both management, Board, staff, all key stakeholders work closely to make sure that this particular facility justifies the confidence that the public has in it. If you have a situation where despite all the things that are said out there, people still come to Korle Bu for care, it tells you there’s a very big reason why they come here and I always say that, it’s because the skills and knowledge you need to survive is here in Korle Bu,” Dr. Okoe Boye noted.

Dr. Felix Anyah sacked as Korle-Bu CEO

The former CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Felix Anyah was sacked by President Akufo-Addo in June 2018.

Dr. Anyah, who is the owner of Holy Trinity Medical Centre/Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm was appointed on June 1, 2017.

He took over from Dr. Samuel Asiamah who was the acting CEO of the hospital following the self-termination of service by Dr. Gilbert Buckle.

Dr. Buckle, before his departure, faced numerous challenges with the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA).

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, in spite of its status as a leading health facility in the country, is bedevilled with many challenges that some observers have described as insurmountable.

This is despite its many changes in administration.

The situation of the hospital was described by the Minister for Environment Science and Technology, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng as a ‘monster’ that cannot be killed.
