Imposter on bail in a job recruitment fraud

An Accra Circuit Court has granted a bail of GH¢100,000.00, with three sureties to a 43-year-oldman, who allegedly posed as the Dansoman Chairman of the  New Patriotic Party (NPP) to defraud 38 persons of GH¢116,400.00 under the pretext of securing them jobs at the various Ministries.

Akwasi Boateng, a spare-parts dealer, has pleaded not guilty to the offence.

He is expected to re-appear on October 2, 2018.

Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Ohene Adjei told the Court, presided over by Madam Marian Affoh that, Brian Bediako Pra-Asante is the Prosecution Witness and a trader, living at Saltpond in the Central Region and Boateng lives at Dansoman in Accra.

He said In September 2017, Boateng posed as the NPP Chairman for the Dansoman KitKat Polling Station and told the victim that, he (Boateng) had a direct link to the Flagstaff House and was entitled to submit names and Curriculum Vitae (CVs) of qualified persons for employment at the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, Cocobod and Ghana Water Company Limited.

Boateng convinced Pra-Asante and he (Pra-Asante) also organised 37 others and collected monies totalling GH¢116,400.00 and gave to the accused person, believing that they would be employed.

The Prosecution said after collecting the money, Boateng failed to fulfil his part of the bargain and refunded GH¢17,000.00 when the first Prosecution Witness confronted him and later went into hiding.

A formal complaint was lodged with the police and the accused was later arrested.

He admitted the offence and he was arraigned.
