PHOTOS: Sekondi-Takoradi CNC now rubbish dump and den for criminals

The Center for National Culture (CNC) in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis is now a rubbish dump and a comfortable hide out for thieves around the Fijai (suburb of Sekondi) area.

Not only will anyone who visits the edifice that thirst for paint express disappointment about how the structure has been deserted for years, the entrance of the CNC greets patrons with heap of rubbish.

Speaking to neighbours of the CNC on Sunday 2^nd September, 2018 around 3pm, a man in his early forties who would only speak on the basis of anonymity told www.233times.net that thieves now use the CNC as a safe haven where they ply their trade. “It is not even safe to use this street at night because you would easily be attacked and all your belongings taken away. The thieves hide there (pointing to a corner at the CNC) and attack people who use this area” he told www.233times.net.

Another resident who expressed disappointment in how the rubbish are dumped at the CNC said “This is even the least you’ve seen. I think because of the storm that came with the rains last night (Saturday 1^st September, 2018), it blew a lot of the rubbish away. You would have come to meet heap of rubbish which will make you wonder if people even use here. And the interesting thing is that some people use here for their office” Auntie Adjokuma told www.233times.net.

Phone calls to Rev. Stephen Ebo Kessie (Manager of the facility) on both his MTN and Airtel phone numbers did not go through. Other staffers of the facility also refused to talk to www.233times.net on the state of the CNC, the imposing structure that was built by the tax payers money.

The Centers for National Culture was set up to promote and preserve Ghanaian culture and heritage. Most of them have a large air conditioned hall where sometimes they show films or present other events.
