Nana Boakye steps down as NSS Deputy Executive Director

Henry Nana Boakye has stepped down as the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in charge of operations.

This, is to enable him to concentrate on his new elected position as the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He has since communicated his resignation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Nana Boakye was appointed as the Deputy Executive Director of the NSS in February 2017 and ahead of the NPP July 7, 2018 conference in Koforidua, where he was contesting as National Youth Organiser,  there were concerns of a possible conflict of interest in relation to holding both national and partisan office.

Nana Boakye reacting to the concerns said he will step down from the NSS position if he was to win.

He won the National Youth Organiser position by beating the other contestants Kamal-Deen Abdulai, Emmanuel Nana Bediako D. Appiah and Dominic Kwesi Eduah.

He polled 423 votes as against Kamal-Deen’s 102 votes, Emmanuel Nana Bediako D. Appiah’s one vote and Dominic Kwesi Eduah’s Eduah’s 246 votes.

Last week, there were public concerns as to why he was still at post at the NSS two months after taking office as the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, and he responded he was waiting for President Akufo-Addo to return from his two-nation tour to China and Rwanda to officially communicate his decision to resign.

Meanwhile, reports suggest another youth activist of the NPP, Kwaku Ohene Djan has been appointed to replace Nana Boakye as Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in charge of Operations.

Below is a copy of his resignation letter.

H.E NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC
JUBILEE HOUSE
ACCRA .

Dear Sir,

RESIGNATION FROM OFFICE AS DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (OPERATIONS) OF THE NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME.

At the last National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party, held in Koforidua, I had the honour of being elected as the National Youth Organizer of our great party. Prior to, and in the aftermath of my election, I reiterated my commitment to building a robust and effective youth wing, which will play a pivotal role in our party’s quest to retain power in 2020 and beyond.

In order for me to be able to discharge this duty, in this new role, to the best of my ability, I have decided, after extensive consultations with the leadership of our party and other stakeholders, to resign as the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme.

Mr. President, I am eternally grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve in your government. My days at the National Service Scheme afforded me in-depth knowledge into a wide range of issues affecting and of concern to the youth of our country, and I will be relying on this experience, amongst others, to help your Government in meeting the aspirations of the teeming masses of Ghanaian youth and also the youth of our party.

I remain your loyal lieutenant who will, at all times, protect and defend the interests of your Government, and I look forward to serving you even more in my new role as National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party.

I thank you, once again, Mr President for the opportunity, and may God continue to bless you.

Yours sincerely,

Henry Nana Boakye
National Youth Organizer
New Patriotic Party.
