We Haven’t Called Off Our Strike – Tanker Drivers

Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) has denied claims by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Alhassan Tampuli,  that they have called off their strike.

The drivers embarked on the industrial action Monday over what they say is the refusal of the NPA  to address their concerns.

They have been protesting the NPA’s  failure to ensure the full implementation of the Petroleum Producers Transportation Delivery Retail and Loss Control Manual, which was formulated by the Energy Commission in 2004.

The union made up of over 4000 drivers also raised concerns over poor working conditions and salary distortions.

Following a meeting with the irate drivers Monday, the NPA boss announced the drivers had agreed to resume work since their concerns were being addressed by the Authority.

“More than 80 per cent of their concerns have been addressed,” Mr. Tampuli said.

But speaking to the media, the general secretary of the Union Francis Oman said their strike is still in force.

“We have not called off any strike. We are still on strike, we don’t know who called off the strike or who told him the strike was off but I want say on record that our strike is still ongoing until our concerns are addressed”.
