A Junior High School Student of the West Ridge School at Sekondi in the Western Region has been stabbed to death by a colleague on campus.
The boy, a JHS 3 student, who would have turned 14 years old on Friday, October 26, was stabbed multiple times in the rib and stomach during break time on the school’s campus Thursday at about 10:00am.
He was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital but died moments before a scheduled surgery to stabilize his condition, which health authorities said kept deteriorating due to loss of blood.
The suspect, Ernest Adenu, who the School Management has described as a recalcitrant student, is currently in the grips of the police assisting in investigations.
Eyewitnesses told Takoradi-based Connect FM that both the deceased and the suspect were classmates and that the deceased mistakenly hit the suspect with a pen.
Ernest allegedly removed sharp clipper from the shoe he wore to school and stabbed his victim multiple times. He bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital.
A nurse at the hospital who confirmed the death of the student to Connect FM described the scene as a sad one, noting the deceased had wounds in the rib and stomach region. The nurse said the boy died at about 5:00pm when he was being prepared for theatre.
The body of the deceased was collected by the family members to bury it in line with Islamic custom but the Sekondi Police moved in quickly to seize the body before it could be buried.
It has since been deposited at the mortuary for postmortem.
