KNUST Lecturers, others embark on demo

FOLLOWING the dissolution and an order from the government asking the vice-chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology , Professor Obiri Danso to step aside earlier in the day, members of the Senior Staff Association, the Ghana Association of University Administrators, the University Teachers Association of Ghana, and the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, hit
the streets immediately to protest the government’s decision.
The lecturers of the university have already have already withdrawn their services.
They hoisted placards with inscriptions like ‘Reverse Decision to Dissolve Board’, ‘No VC, No Work’,  ‘Stop These Political Tricks’, ‘No IMC in KNUST’, and ‘No Government Interference’,  among others.
The University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG), has backed the strike by the local branch on KNUST campus.
UTAG has, as a matter of urgency, directed members across the country to meet and decide their next line of action.
Members of the teacher union say they do not recognise the Interim Management Committee the government has put in place to man the affairs of the university for three months.
They insist that the government’s approach to addressing the impasse between the university management and the students was wrong.
