It’s sad government doesn’t realize how we help Ghana’s economy – Head of Prostitutes in Takoradi

Popularly known as Grandma, the Head of Commercial Sex workers in Takoradi has said that she is sad government officials do not consider the positive impact of commercial sex workers in the country.

According to Grandma who is in her late thirties, the rate of rape in Ghana has fallen drastically because they provide alternative to rapists when their libido is high. “They (rapists) now do not even think of raping people again because with the little they have we can solve their issue” Grandma told www.233times.net.

“It’s sad we are not even considered when government is planning for the country. We should be amongst the priorities when the government is planning things for the citizens. We are also citizens who are also helping the economy with our job. All the money we take are spent in Ghana. We also buy things from people so we help other businesses to run. If they consider our business we will earn a lot for Ghana” Grandma elaborated.

Asking if she is aware that the government cannot plan for them because prostitution is illegal in Ghana, she said “the Police even come here, they are our clients, when they are coming to arrest us, some of them who are our clients alert us and we don’t go to the street that day. Tell the Police to stop coming to us if it’s illegal then. We don’t believe this should be illegal but they are always arresting some of our people.”

“If there is any way the government can help us they should because these the health facilities even come here to check our HIV status, Hepatitis B and other things and even give us condoms to protect ourselves so if it’s illegal why do they help us with all of these?” Grandma quizzed.
