Speed up murders, kidnapping investigations – Parly to Police

Parliament has urged the police administration to speed up investigations into recent killings and kidnappings in the country and arrest suspects behind those incidents.

The Legislature cited incidents such as the killing of the undercover journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale and the Public Affairs Manager of the Ports and Harbours Authority Josephine Asnate.

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in his open remarks as the House resumed sitting today after the Christmas holidays said the recent reports of kidnapping is threatening the country’s security.

“It is important for parliament to urge the police service to relentlessly pursue these cases to their logical conclusion. The Kidnapping of three girls in Takoradi in the Western region is also very worrying and the Police we understand are working ostensibly to unveil the people behind these dastardly acts,” the Suame MP said Tuesday.

He also assured Ghanaians that the House will prioritise the passage of the Right to Information Bill during this meeting.

For his part, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Adddo and the people of Dagbon for a successful and peaceful enskinment of a new overlord.

Iddrisu challenged the people of Dagbon to unite to restore pride and honour of the Dagbon state.

Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye also commended Dagbon people and also charged MPs to be more dedicated to the work of Parliament.
