Kaakie Tells the truth at last

Dancehall artiste Kaakie has spoken for the first time about claims by Lingua Kat (real name Kweku Obeng Amoako ) that he wrote her three hit songs “Too Much, Top gyal, and DC Turn up”.

Joy News caught up with Kaakie at the recent Channel O’ live recording of “O News Live” at the Silverstars South Terrace in Accra, and she bluntly confirmed that Lingua Kat did actually write her three hit songs. She says:

“Lingua Kat wrote, DC Turn Up, Top Gyal, and a little portion of Too Much…The song ‘Too Much’ was not written by Lingua Kat alone, but with help from dancehall gurus like Sammini, Stone boy and Jim Jay”.

Kaakie also explains that she always acknowledges Lingua Kat: “I always mention his name and appreciate him, probably when I do he doesn’t listen”. She continues, “ I do and respect his opinion since everyone is subjected to their own opinions”.

Sometime last month, Kwaku Obeng Amoako, who prefers to be called Lingua Kat, in an interview with Joy News, revealed that three of the hit singles recorded by Kaakie were originally his songs. These are, “Too Much”, “Top Gyal” and “DC Turn Up”.

He explained that he did not record those three songs because Dansoman-based music producer, “Jam Master Jay” thought a feminine voice would best suit the song and since he did not have the financial wherewithal to produce it on his own he had to let it go.

Lingua Kat was unhappy his efforts have not been appreciated by Kaakie’s management team as he is never credited even as the composer of the songs that shot Kaakie to the limelight. He told Joy News’ Gladys Osei Owiredu the songs lack energy because no respect was given to the song writer.

But with Kaakie’s admission and appreciation of Lingua Kat, this should put an end to the bickering between the two.

Meanwhile Kaakie says she has a lot in the pipeline and will surprise Ghanaians very soon, entreating Ghanaians and dancehall lovers to stay tuned.
