Prez. Akufo-Addo names Sefwi Wiawso as the capital of the newly created Western North Region

President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, February 15 named Sefwi Wiawso as the capital of the newly created Western North Region.

After the overwhelming ‘Yes’ endorsement from the people of the area through a referendum in 2018, the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) got the mandate of the people within the Western North area to create the new region together with five others.

In the presence of some chiefs and elders from Western North Region, the President made the announcement and the presentation of the Constitutional Instrument, which gives the legal backing to the existence of the region.

Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has also been made the Caretaker Minister for the newly created Western North Region.
