Takoradi baby stealing saga: What neighbours of ‘baby thief’ are saying – “The man is innocent”

Residents of Effiakuma Zongo (Alhaji Bawa area) in Takoradi, the neighbourhood of ‘baby thief’ Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42 years and a Seamstress who stole 1 year old baby Francis Mauwsi Ahiagbenu on Friday 22^nd March, 2019 at Market Circle are defending the boyfriend of the ‘baby thief’ Larry Lawson, 33 years and a mason that “he is innocent of the baby theft.”

Speaking to www.233times.net yesterday Tuesday 26^th March, 2019 a neighbour who lives opposite Larry Lawson whose name is given as Auntie Fati narrated the whole ordeal to this Reporter. According to her;

“Brother Ahmed hardly stays home. This lady, Mawusi is his fiancé and they’ve been in relationship for a while. Anytime she comes to visit him, there are serious misunderstanding resulting in exchanging of words and they shout on top of their voices so we all hear the insults.

The lady does not respect Brother Ahmed so all of us here don’t even like her. I remember the lady once said she will give him a case that will end him somewhere he hasn’t been there before. All of us here warn him about her because we know she is not good for this introvert.

I saw her pregnant last year and she used to come here often with the heavy baby bump. Brother Ahmed is a mason so he is sometimes away for months and his place is locked up. We all saw her deliver a baby boy and she brought the baby here often when the baby was a month old. Brother Ahmed travelled for his usual treks so he last saw the baby when it was about 4 months. I remember when he came around early March, 2019, the lady started coming around but this time without any child. Since they always quarrel when she is in, we heard everything they were saying,

Brother Ahmed requested to see his baby and the lady said the parents had warned her not to bring the child to him because he has not performed the marital rites so until then, the mother will not allow him to come to the house or even allow her to bring the baby along when she is coming.

On Monday 18^th March, 2019 and Tuesday 19^th March, 2019 she came here, and Brother Ahmed sacked her because she said the baby is sick and she was coming for money for drugs for the baby. I remember Brother Ahmed narrated the whole issue to me and I was in support of him seeing the baby he has not seen for almost 6 months because he was away for work.

I am the one he buys rice, and other food stuffs from since I live just a step away from him. Brother Ahmed told me that he has been sending money for diapers and other stuffs for the child whilst he was away. So on Friday 22^nd March, 2019, the lady came with a baby around 4 pm and he entered the room with the baby. I saw her with the baby around 4 pm and because she doesn’t respect the man I don’t even respond to her greetings anytime she is here. She greeted me and just entered the house.

Brother Ahmed upon seeing the child brought him out and everyone in the neighbourhood said baby Mawusi looks like him and he is handsome. He was flaunting him around and I even remember he was sitting right her (pointing to a small bridge in front of the house). Since the lady said the child was not well, he went to the pharmacy and bought the child some drugs.”

In her narration, Sister Fati mentioned one Appendicular who is a tailor. According to her, Larry Lawson (Brother Ahmed) sewed same dress with his supposed son (baby Mawusi) when he was brought by his girlfriend so they even wore the same dress to mosque that day.

Speaking to the tailor Appendicular, he told www.233times.net that “Ahmed sent me a picture of a baby whilst he was away that I should look at this picture and sew a dress that will fit the size of the child. The picture I was sent is not baby Mawusi. After the issue came up was when I referred to the picture and realized that the picture looks different from what I was sent via Whats App by Ahmed. I couldn’t even send the dress to Ahmed on Friday because I hadn’t ironed the dress so I sent my apprentice to take it to him on Saturday 23^rd March, 2019. He wore that dress, the same style with his son and even took him to mosque and flaunting him around that Saturday. We all saw him with the baby and I remember how he was announcing to all of us about his baby.”

“He even went to the barbershop with the baby for a haircut. The barber is a popular one here in Effiakuma called Mistake. He asked for the ‘galax’ haircut for the child when they went to the barbershop” Appendicular added.

Appendicular and Sister Fati mentioned that Ahmed flaunted baby Mawusi from Friday till the SWAT unit of the Police Department came to the area around 1 am on Monday 25^th March to apprehend them.

“It is still a mystery as to where the original baby is; some even say the baby is dead and others say maybe she used the pregnancy to take money from Ahmed” Appendicular tells www.233times.net.

The two Larry Lawson, 33, a mason and Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42, a Seamstress are to be arraigned before court today Wednesday 27^th March, 2019.
