More than one thousand residents of the Northern Regional regional capital, Tamale, and surrounding areas have been displaced following a violent rain storm that hit the area Monday night.
Residents have described the storm as the worst to hit the area in decades.
Several buildings had their roofs ripped off including the official residence of the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru and his Deputy, Mr A.B.A. Fuseini.
Joy News’ Martina Bugri reports the rainstorm also uprooted trees which blocked some roads in the metropolis.
She said the areas such as Kpawomo, Taha, Kpambiawo, Sangnerugu and Nyehoni, were the hardest hit.
Many victims, she said, broke down in tears and watched helplessly while floods swept away their properties.
“As at now we are homeless, we have no place to sleep. Our mattresses; everything is condemned,” a displaced resident told Martina.
