We’ll give discount on Nana Addo’s inauguration day – Sex workers in Sekondi-Takoradi

1A group of commercial sex workers in oil capital of Ghana, Sekondi-Takoradi have revealed that they will reduce their rates to up to half on the day (7th January, 2016) Nana Addo Dunkwa Akufo-Addo, president-elect of Ghana will be inaugurated.

Speaking to www.233times.net at the busy Beach Road roundabout, a sex worker who would want to be known as Keila said “Business wasn’t good before, we really struggled. I relocated to Takoradi because of the oil but as I came, I realized it was not a good business like Accra where I make more money. I had already been here and going back to Accra was difficult.”

In Fante, another sex worker who would want to be anonymous in this reportage told www.233times.net that “As a way to welcome our new president, we want to give a discount on his swearing in day. I think people didn’t know about this but when he won, we had discount for people and that day we made more money.”

Threatening to curse this reporter if their pictures are secretly taken for this reportage, Naomi detailed how much they are making and their expectations when Nana Addo takes over the helm of affairs of Ghana. She said “We dey charge more if you be oyibo (white man). Me I no dey take less than GHc150 if you be oyibo but if you be my black man some a I dey consider then take GHC100. When the night dey come a I dey take home like GHc450 on a good day and sometimes too GHC150. We hear oil capital go dey come Western so we want make am make e come for more money come this town too. Akufo-Addo for bring more money o yoo or else we too we go vote give the other ones too.”

In a chorus, the sex workers mentioned that during soccer tournaments, the excitement of people whose teams have won seek their service so on Nana Addo’s inauguration day, as more of his party members would celebrate, they will give discount to their potential clients in order to attract more money.
