Water rationing in Sekondi-Takoradi a result of dry season – GWCL

The Western Regional Public Relations officer for the Ghana Water Company (GWC) Nana Yaw Banieh says the water rationing currently happening in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis is a result of the dry season.

Speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show, he indicated that the dry season has caused the water levels to drop, reducing the intake level of the Daboase treatment plant.

Mr Banieh claimed this phenomenon is not new as is the normal cycle each year.

He said they are working to salvage the situation as an excavator is currently dredging the intake area for the treatment plant to have enough water to take in.

“This is a normal situation that keeps occurring every year which we keep explaining to the people as well. We have taken measures to dredge the intake area so the plant will have enough water to produce to for the people of Sekondi-Takoradi,” he said.

Mr Banieh also said the government is building a new treatment plant at Daboase that will produce about 20 million gallons of water daily and will be completed next year.
