Mother kills son over GH¢120 (PHOTO)

The Kwabenya police in Accra have apprehended a 32-year-old trader for allegedly killing her own son.

Suspect Rosina Sam is alleged to have beaten up her 11-year-old son, Andrew Sam – a Class 4 pupil of C&J Montessori School, Kotobabi, Accra – to death when he reportedly misplaced her GH¢120.

Rosina, who operates a supermarket in front of her house, was said to have sent the boy with the money to go and buy some credit cards for sale when the money reportedly got missing.

Out of anger, Rosina Sam allegedly locked up the child in a room and severely beat him up, according to reports.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tenge, regional police Public Relations Officer, said the incident occurred on Friday, December 15, 2017 but the case was reported the following day.

She said the boy used a bicycle for the errand and a few minutes later, he came to inform the mother that the money was missing.

According to the boy, the money fell from his pocket.

Rosina Sam allegedly left the boy in the room and went back to the store.

A few minutes later, she reportedly returned to the room and saw the boy lying in bed.

The son then told the mother that he was feeling cold and so the mum asked him to cover himself with a piece of cloth and left the room.

ASP Tenge said at about 9:30 pm after she had locked the shop and returned to the house, she called the boy several times but there was no response and so she went and touched his forehead but realised that his body was very cold.

The mother called for help and when Andrew was rushed to the La Hospital for treatment, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter was then reported to the Kwabenya police while the body was deposited at the La health facility.

ASP Tenge said plans were being made for the body to be transferred to the Police Hospital for autopsy to be conducted as part of investigations.
