New reforms will ease doing business – Bawumia

The Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the introduction of new reforms by the end of this month should see Ghana make significant improvement on the World Bank’s ease of doing business list for 2019.

The 2018 World Bank report on Doing Business Ranking, saw Ghana move six places up from 120 to 114 out of 190 economies across the world.

He made the remarks while delivering a speech at the 3rd German-African Business Summit in Accra.

The German-African Business Summit (GABS) – Germany’s signature business event in Africa – affords top business and government leaders from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa an opportunity to meet every two years in Africa to discuss and promote economic issues.

This years’ event, the 3rd edition which runs from February 11 to 13, is expected to among other things, strengthen the economic partnerships between Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa, and also allow for the exploration of business trends and market opportunities.

It will in addition facilitate networking between over 700 high-ranking representatives from business and politics from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa

While delivering his speech at the event, Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia mentioned that government is committed to creating an enabling environment for all investors across the world.

“It is very important that we are putting in place institution that will anchor macroeconomic stability. And I think this is important also for investors both domestic and foreign that you’re going to come into an environment which is relatively stable.”

The Vice president while acknowledging that Ghana has done well when it comes to the ease of doing business said, more will be done to improve Ghana’s position on the rankings in 2019.

“We’re working on some reforms which will be announced by the end of this month that will help Ghana move forward when it comes to the ease of doing business.”

While admitting that Ghana was learning from best practices in various fields from Germany Dr. Bawumia said Ghana will work with Germany to deliver benefits for the citizens of the two countries.

“We would continue to work together with Germany to build on our strong relationship and also continue to put in place measures that will support the growth of our two countries.”
