The Overload of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, has sent a delegation to the troubled Chereponi and Saboba districts to discuss peace and a cease-fire.
The visit of the delegation was a follow up on last week’s invitation of both chiefs and District Chief Executives of the two areas at the Gbewaa palace.
The two sides expressed happiness about the visit and have reassured the Overload that they would do everything possible to end the fight.
Speaking on behalf of the Yaa-Naa, the Secretary to the Yaa-Naa Abdul Rahman Mohammed, said the Anufuls had however, expressed concerns about two missing men whom they say were in a vehicle that was stopped.
According to them, the two went missing when the vehicle they were travelling in was stopped by the Konkombas.
They are therefore appealing to Yaa Naa to intervene in finding the two missing people.
Yaa Naa Abukari II earlier this month called for peace between Anufuls and the Konkombas in Chereponi in the North East Region.
His call comes after renewed clashes between the two ethnic groups, which have left three people dead, and many others displaced.
In a closed-door meeting with the paramount chiefs of the Konkombas and Anufuls, as well as the District Chief Executives of Saboba and Chereponi, Yaa Naa Abukari II said the two communities can only develop when peace prevails.
In a statement from the Dagbon Traditional Council, Yaa Naa reminded the chiefs and the District Chief Executives that education is the key to development.
The Yaa Naa also called on the leaderships of the Konkombas and the Anufuls in the country and elsewhere to assist the chiefs in the conflict area to nip the violence in the bud.
