The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly today Monday, April 6, 2020 closed down the Takoradi Market Circle, Sekondi, Kojokrom and other community markets to business activities for disinfection spraying exercise.
Even though Western Region is not part of the locked down regions, as a result of the disinfection exercise at the selected markets in the Metropolis, residents voluntarily locked themselves down to ensure that the disinfection smoothly goes on.
At the busy Market Circle where over 4,000 people shuttle to and fro daily, no single stall or store opened today. Not even the Market Circle Police was opened today. Again, all transportation terminals did not operate today.
The disinfection exercise which started at 6 am covered all the markets and other public areas such as transport terminals, events ground, drains and others.
The Takoradi Market Circle and Sekondi Market were closed to the general public on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 12 noon to enable officials of the Ghana National Fire Service to flush all drains ahead of the planned disinfection exercise.
Regular market activities are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
