‘Pragyia’ is not welcomed in Sekondi-Takoradi – MTTD Commander

The Western Regional Commander for the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Chief Supt. Isaac Kwesi Sorkpah, on Friday, August 6 stated that, commercial tricycle, popularly known as Pragyia is not welcomed in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

According to the Commander, it is unlawful for anyone to use tricycle for commercial purposes and to pick passengers is when these tricycle riders cross the line in the Ghana traffic laws.

Also, he made it known that, most of these tricycle users are ignorant of the law and go further to disobey traffic rules which is contributing to the high rate of road accidents in the country.

However, he explained that, for the Ghanaian society to progress, we will need to insist on the laws and disregard any activities that seems to go against the Ghana laws which will obviously lead to retrogression of the society’s development.

Chief Supt. Sorkpah suggested that, for tricycles to be allowed to operate or made legal for commercial purposes, their association should petition their various MP’s for a motion to be tabled before parliament for the amendment of the road traffic regulations to allow tricycles to operate on commercial basis.

Moreover, since the traffic regulations have not been amended yet to suit the commercialising of tricycles, they are going to arrest any rider seen using their tricycle for commercial purposes.
