6 More of President Mahama’s Ministerial nominees approved

Parliament has approved six more ministerial nominees submitted by President John Dramani Mahama, marking a step towards the completion of his ministerial team.

The appointments were confirmed in two batches on Thursday, January 23, following rigorous vetting by the Appointments Committee and an extensive debate on the floor of Parliament.

The approval process was overseen by the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who presided over the session. After hours of deliberations, both the Majority and Minority caucuses reached a consensus, endorsing the nominees as capable leaders equipped to manage their respective ministries effectively.

The approved nominees include:

1. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South, who has been appointed as Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

2. Emelia Arthur, MP for Shama, designated as Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

3. George Opare Addo, National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organizer, now Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment.

4. Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda, appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

5. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, MP for Krowor, confirmed as Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

6. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP for Techiman North, selected as Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness.

This approval represents the third and fourth batches of President Mahama’s nominees to receive parliamentary endorsement.  Ministers from the first and second batches were sworn-in by the President yesterday.

During the debates, MPs highlighted the nominees’ expertise, leadership acumen, and commitment to national development.

President Mahama’s administration is now a step closer to completing its ministerial formation, paving the way for the government to intensify efforts in addressing Ghana’s socio-economic challenges.
