Some residents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have commended the Assembly for the Operation Paint Your Building Campaign.
Speaking to Skyy News, some of the residents said the campaign is a good idea by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) as it will beautify the city but there is a problem.
The problem according to them is that they don’t have the funds to embark on such an important project and that may hinder the success of the campaign.
A resident told Skyy News, “This project is good and living in very clean and nicely painted houses even gives you a new sense of hope and motivation, we really commend the Assembly for this but the problem is the money to buy the paints, and looking at the economy at this time, things are not favourable at all.”
Some of the residents suggested that the Assembly should look for means to secure funds and sponsorship to assist residents because it will somehow be impossible without that.
The Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah at a formal launch of the painting of a house in the metropolis said the campaign is targeted at the entire metropolis, but buildings along the roads are earmarked for reconstruction this year will be considered.
He said, “As part of efforts to make Sekondi-Takoradi one of the most beautiful cities in the country, we passed the regulation in December last year to enforce the regulation.”
“Buildings, particularly on ceremonial roads such as the Nkroful to Apollo Highway, Takoradi-Accra Highway and Takoradi to Kwesimintsim Highway,” he added.
Failure to comply with this directive will compel the assembly to paint such buildings and surcharge the expenses incurred in the exercise to the owners.
Owners who fail to cause the payment or fail to paint their houses will be prosecuted according to the STMA bye-laws on maintenance of premises 2017.
