“There’s no future for Newscasters in Sekondi-Takoradi” – Radio Personality

radio_1920977cAstute Sports Presenter, Israel Owusu Fordah has  revealed that, Newscasters in Sekondi-Takoradi has no future and to succeed, those Newscasters should move outside the Metropolis.

In his explanation to www.233times.net, “There are 20 radio stations in Sekondi-Takoradi and out of the 20, only 1 station does their own news. The remaining 19 tap news from sister stations in Accra and Kumasi rendering the Newscasters in the region ineffective.”

“All those who do their own news do them at odd hours and not at the prime time which attracts listenership. Since the radio stations who tap know that they will pipe their news from other stations, they do not put in enough resources in their own news. Those who tap the news from their sister stations in Accra and Kumasi have their Journalists as regional correspondents for the stations and in so doing, they always play second fiddle to Newscasters in Accra and Kumasi” Israel buttressed.

“Can you imagine, 5 radio stations in the twin-city pick one news item at a time from Adom FM. And 3 radio stations pick Citi FM’s ‘Eye Witness News’ and 3 radio stations pick Peace FM’s news. How can you have future as a Newscaster if you are in this region?” Israel quizzed.

“The Radio Station owners for cheap labour and not wanting to put in more resources rely on this easy way to transmit which is killing talents” Israel Fordah added.

“Comparing the quality of news items presented from Accra, it is not anything extraordinary which could not be done in the twin-city by the Reporters in the Metropolis” Israel Fordah told www.233times.net

According to him, this has affected the performances of the Newscasters and the Presenters in general because it has sent a bad perception to people outside the Metropolis. “Even people in the twin-city believe news items from Accra and Kumasi more than that from this part of the region” Israel concluded.
