We won’t buy sachet water at 30p – Sekondi-Takoradi residents

Sachet-Water-Seller-The-TrentResidents of Sekondi-Takoradi have expressed resentment over the increase in price of sachet water. Majority of them say they will not buy sachet water at the new price of 30 pesewas per sachet and 5 cedis per bag.

They have described the situation as unfair to Ghanaians, however sachet water producers maintain that the increment have become necessary to reflect the recent hike in utility tariff.

A cross-section of residents, who interacted with Skyy News Team, seemed helpless about this development and pleaded with government to intervene. According to them, the recent hikes in utility tariffs coupled with the increase in price of sachet water will have a serious toll on their finances.

The people of Sekondi –Takoradi and for that matter Ghanaians believe that water is life and should not be expensive. They maintained that if all commodities should be increased, then water should be excluded in other to make it affordable to all.

Others fumed “we are going back to our route, back to drinking our tap water no matter the implication, we are not going to buy any sachet water, the price is too much, it is unfair”.

Some vendors expressed worry about the disruption it may bring to their business and fear that they may have to quit the water vending business and look for other alternatives because they may lose their customers. A vendor added “customers were already complaining about the price being 20 pesewas, so now that the price has further shot up, people may not buy”.
