Here are the sad statistics. Only 3% of Ghanaians can actually swim in 6+ feet water fully buried in it for more than 20 minutes. Over 90% of that percentage cannot swim in a strong current or flowing water body.
Almost 95% of Ghanaians will go on a boat or ferry and outright refuse to wear a buoyant jacket. I am sad Castro and his girl are gone … but no one should blame any “marine spirit” for this. Ignorance kills more Africans than disease.
Let this be a lesson to our nation. Include swimming lessons as a mandatory PE activity from age 4. Make it a crime to go on a boat without a life jacket unless you produce a license that certifies you as an elite swimmer.

I believe the film industry has come a long way, yet we are not there yet. The African Movies haven’t made a dent in the international arena. We have to explore areas in our history that will give the true African perspective of events instead buying into the white man’s tale of Africa. We have a lot of stories to tell about Africa. We can grow the industry by changing the paradigm. I’ve been an actor in Nigeria and went further to get my degree in filmmmaking in Gibbs College New York. I understand the essence of filmmmaking in our contemporary history. Let’s give it an African twist to have a universal appeal. We recently applauded “Beast of no nation” , and for years admire ” Coming to America “. These are movies with universal appeals. We can do much better than the usual. I’ll also appeal to the banking institutions and other corporate bodies to support in that direction to ensure a high budget for a high end. We can make the industry lucrative, because our brothers and sisters in the diaspora are yearning for good African Movies.

It can be frustrating a times but nonetheless, it is not rosy abroad too. We all have different aims so I guess at a point, most of them will return. Thank you once again.
With all honesty, it just appears the Western region in general just adds up to numbers in Ghana. With regards to Sekondi-Takoradi having to be more developed more than Aberdeen, I think that’s going to more than a century starting from now.
In terms of infrastructure, we do have a long way to go. A region which can’t boast of a single overhead amid all its natural resources makes one wonder the sort of crime we’ve committed for possessing all of these goodies.
I’m really glad you brought up the music industry and that Westside Legacy thing. It’s really difficult classifying the sort of music most musicians here are doing. One just can’t think far when he or she hears music being made in Tadi. You just don’t know where to play the music. One might hear a secular song filled with God’s praise but yet still the music video(something they rarely do) will be filled with girls twerking.
An artiste will be hailing how good weed is and the next song he will be praising God. Is that not hypocrisy?
